Why Self Publishing?
Let's Just Call it Publishing

Why "Self Publishing"? I realize "Self Publishing" is a more common term to describe what people do when they do it themselves.
But "Self Publishing" sounds like a hobby enterprise and I believe when people create a book to sell they are starting a business, an Independent Publishing business.
Independent Publishers are business people first and artists second. "Self publishing" has a dozen definitions and a dozen misconceptions. Thinking of ourselves as publishers broadens our world and puts us on equal footing with Random House (we're just a little smaller).
As independent publishers, self publishers and authors we all need to learn the basics of business, marketing, promotion and finance. It's time for everyone to graduate from self publishing and become small businesses.
